Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog. I'll be using my online handle 'Frogge' for the purposes of this blog, so feel free to refer to me as such.
A little information about me: I am a student currently starting a pHD in film studies in England. I have a big (secular) interest in the haunted and esoteric - I love horror films and how they make our world appear more magical than it really is. I want to write and direct my own horror films, but not much really scares me nowadays, at least not in the same way they did when I believed in ghosts and demons as a child. That, in turn, has put me in a bit of a creative block recently - how can I write something scary if I don't find anything scary enough to write about?
That's why I've been on the prowl for a genuine haunting. The idea of finding a legitimately cursed film, book, website, photograph, et cetera, that something so fantastical could really exist out there in our demystified modern world is something that excites me. I've seen all forms of "watching this tape will kill you in seven days" or "reading this poem aloud will cause great tragedy to befall you" types of fiction, and yet, here I am, living a healthy, happy, non-haunted life years down the line, so unfortunately, I know it's a futile effort. That, however, does not dissuade me from continuing my hunt - if there really is, hypothetically, a haunted piece of media out there, then it's not just going to fall into my lap.
Or is it?
The reason I'm finally starting this blog is because I've stumbled onto something compelling. You see, I was in town earlier today browsing a charity shop when I came upon an untitled book among the shelves. It had no price tag, and when I took it up to the counter, not even the people working there seemed to recognize it. Strange, but nothing too alarming, right?
I was intrigued and they told me that I was free to just take it with me since I seemed interested in whatever it was. I thanked them and left the store, got the rest of my shopping done, and began to have a peruse once I got home. It had no table of contents, acknowledgements, an author, or anything of the sort, but rather started with a couple pages that looked like they had previously been blank, but now had handwritten notes on them.
I won't quote the notes directly, but in summary, they talked about how this book was cursed and that by reading through it, I was inviting an evil entity into my life.
My first thought: lol, Cool!
I'm fairly sure this is gonna turn out to be nothing, but on the slim chance I really get cursed, then I'd be remiss not to document it. And if it does turn out to be nothing, I'll just post updates for how my search for other haunted objects/media goes throughout time. Either way, good incentive for me to finally start this blog.
